Duane Stilwell
Duane Stilwell, Chemistry teacher at Spring Valley High School, has been a member of the East Ramapo Teachers’ Center Policy Board since 2004.
During his tenure on the Policy Board, Duane’s commitment and participation has extended beyond the normal roles and responsibilities of a Policy Board member. Duane co-chairs the Reflective Practice Program committee, and has been very active in helping to publicize the use of this professional development process.
As a trained Reflective Practice coach/facilitator, Duane also participated in the creation of the Center’s video of an actual Reflective Practice session in which he presents his “problem” to a group of his peers, and receives their feedback and ideas. In addition, Duane co-presented this program to Spring Valley High School staff, and the district’s principals with the Center’s director. And, as if that wasn’t enough . . . Duane’s enthusiasm and excitement about this program, prompted him to design a fact sheet and brochure on the Center’s Reflective Practice Program.
As an active Policy Board member, Duane has also attended the Policy Board members’ workshop at a recent Lower Hudson Teachers’ Center Network conference day.
Most recently, Duane was appointed as the Teachers’ Center’s SmartBoard Resource Person at SVHS and is presently attending SmartBoard training on Saturdays in preparation for this position.
Last, but not least, Duane also serves as a trained mentor for the New Teacher Mentor Program.
For these reasons, along with his continued support of the Teachers’ Center and perpetuation of our programs, it is easy to see why Duane is our latest Good Apple Award recipient.
Congratulations, Duane! And THANKS!
